The Central government has doubled the income slab for the Economically Weaker
Section (EWS) category under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh for housing schemes under the affordable housing in partnership (AHP) projects in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). This will increase the number of people who are eligible to avail of affordable housing through Mhada and CIDCO's lottery of PMAY houses in urban areas.
Mhada issued a press note Monday claiming this increase was effected after the Maharashtra government's request to the Centre. "The enhancement in income slab aims to expand the eligibility and accessibility of affordable housing for individuals belonging to the EWS category. Also, maximum people in EWS category can avail the benefit of Mhada's housing lottery in MMR," the agency said.
Under the affordable housing in partnership (AHP), the Central government provides a subsidy of Rs 1.5 lakh per dwelling unit. The AHP vertical approves projects with a minimum of 250 houses, of which at least 35% are reserved for the EWS category.
Meanwhile Mhada’s Mumbai board released a draft list of applicants participating in the
upcoming housing lottery for 4,082 flats in different parts of Mumbai. The draft list
includes a total of 1,22,235 applications of which 527 applications have been declared as
ineligible while the scrutiny is still under way for 14,990 applications. As of Monday,
1,06,799 applicants will be participating in the lottery. This number may change after
Mhada declares the final list on July 24.
