Initiative to provide cool drinking water in public places for Thaneites

As the heatwave intensifies, Thaneites have been advised to remain hydrated. A helping hand towards this is the initiative by the Thane Mumicipal Corporation (TMC) and CREDAI MCHI Thane, at 25 locations which have been identified where traditional earthern water pots (Matkas) have been installed.

“These water pots will provide naturally cool drinking water to Thaneites, and this will be a great help during this Summer,” said Jitendra Mehta, President, CREDAI MCHI Thane. CREDAI MCHI Thane is ensuring that drinking water is replenished in the water pots, and that Thaneites won’t suffer under the severe hear this Summer, he added. In the area near the railway station, the usage has been logged the highest, with a large number of Thaneites remaining hydrated as a result of the initiative.

Tradition suggests earthern pots (Matkas) ensure naturally cooled water, which is a good option to chilled water, especially during days when the temperature goes above 40 degrees centigrade. “The initiative includes procuring the Matkas as also ensuring they are refilled in time, so that the purpose of ensuring Thaneites remain hydrated is achieved,” concluded Jitendra Mehta.
