New Link From Diva To Thane

Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde has announced plans for a new metro line linking the high-speed bullet train station at Diva to Thane city and its railway station. The announcement was made during a public gathering in Diva on Monday evening.

Shinde stated, “Diva is rapidly developing and acquiring a bullet railway station. To ensure seamless connectivity with Thane, we are proposing a metro line connecting the bullet station with Majiwada, which will also interface with the Thane railway station.”

Feasibility Assessment and Project Details

Former Diva corporator and deputy mayor Ramakant Madavi mentioned that the project is still in its early stages. A feasibility study will soon be conducted to evaluate the metro line’s implementation.

A spokesperson explained that the project would establish a crucial connection between the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train and the Central Railway suburban network. “The metro line could potentially integrate the Thane-Bhiwandi and Kalyan-Taloja metro corridors while also connecting nearby suburbs such as Mumbra and Kalwa,” the representative added.

The implementation will likely be handled by Maha Metro or MMRDA once the feasibility phase concludes.

Infrastructure Overhaul and Redevelopment Plans

In addition to the metro line, the state government is prioritising infrastructure development in Diva. The suburb currently faces challenges due to widespread unauthorised constructions. The government announced a cluster redevelopment scheme to provide legitimate housing for residents and alleviate the situation. An infrastructure upgrade worth Rs 1,000 crore has also been planned to transform Diva into a well-equipped suburban hub. This investment aims to improve connectivity and enhance the quality of life for residents.
