Is the Glass on Your Building a Silent Energy Leak?

As Thane and much of India moves toward greener, energy-efficient real estate, glass has become more than just a design element. It's now a key performance material. But despite this shift, many projects continue to fall short not because of budgets, but because of outdated choices and industry myths that are no longer sustainable.

The Heat Trap You Didn’t Know You Installed Most residential buildings still use clear glass with approximately 88 per cent visible light transmission (VLT). Our living environment needs not more than 50 per cent VLT, Excessive daylight = glare and discomfort. Sure, it allows a lot of daylight in but it also welcomes 88 per cent of heat in your living space. The result? Overheated interiors, increased AC costs, and discomfort.
The solution: Performance glass with 50 per cent or lower VLT. It maintains brightness while cutting out excess heat a critical upgrade in line with India’s growing green building norms.

Another problem we face is why are so many Buildings in India Visibly Distorted?
The answer isn’t the architect, it’s the process. Distorted reflections and uneven surfaces come from old glass processing methods. To achieve visual clarity and uniformity, dualchamber furnace technology for glass tempering is now the gold standard ensuring not just form, but function.

Talking of issues, there are also certain myths that Cost Developers more than they Realize.
First is people in the construction industry think DGU (Double Glass Unit) cuts noise. The truth is DGU doesn't cut noise. It only reduces heat. It's an industry practice where builders install a Clear DGU Glass, assuming it will cut noise, but that's not it. To address the problem of noise you need to install Laminated Glass. It helps in reducing noise efficiently.
Second myth that we see around is Clear DGU improves energy efficiency. Well, not the best solution, as a DGU with two clear glasses still lets heat in. What you need is one performance glass pane or laminated unit, depending on whether your goal is heat or sound insulation or even both. If budget constraints lead you to Single Glass Units (SGU), it’s still smarter to use a PERFORMANCE glass instead of CLEAR glass. You'll get better thermal performance and long-term comfort.
